Tracking GSM phones – some information

By: Marawan Alwaraki, October 30, 2012
This is a guest post by James. Credits go to him. To write us a guest post click here.

Tracking a cell phone is sometime a necessity and sometimes the product of a suspicious mind. It could also be a worried parent wanting to keep his or her child safe and it could be a suspicious spouse. Regardless of the reason why one wants to track a phone, cell phone tracking software can come to the rescue. Tracking cell phones can be done by downloading and installing specific software which will then function with the help of GPS signal or by using the closest cell phone towers. Using radio signals to locate the phone requires the phone to be close to the cell phone tower and also be transmitting signals. This is where GSM tracking comes in.

Guided Access could soon become your best feature in iOS 6

By: Marawan Alwaraki, October 28, 2012

Guided access; a new feature made available to iOS users is located in the accessibility menu in the settings application. This categorizes the feature to be an accessibility feature for those with special needs. Furthermore, Apple promoted the feature as an accessibility feature in their iOS 6 WWDC. However, the feature has a lot more that that. An average user will find himself (or herself) using this handy feature occasionally.

I will show you in this article how to set up, use and when to use guided access. I hope you find it useful, and you probably will. If you like the article, share it with your friends, they'll like it too!

iPad Smart Case vs iPad Smart Cover

By: Marawan Alwaraki, October 26, 2012
Apple's next generation of iPad's, the iPad Retina Display aka iPad 4th Generation and iPad Mini, are available for pre-order from Apple's online store. After pre-ordering the 4th generation iPad with a smart cover as it protects both sides of the iPad; I thought for a while. Is the smart case the right decision?

The smart case protects the iPad from both sides which is ultimately the reason people would want to buy a case. But there was something about the smart case that I liked a lot, it looked really beautiful. It's elegant simple design has been promoted in adverts and I seemed to believe it would do a better job.

So after doing some research I have come up with a comparison of both options as well as a YouTube video. I hope you like them.

Apple post a legal notice about judge's UK ruling that Samsung did not copy iPad's design

By: Marawan Alwaraki, October 26, 2012
And the battle continues

The High court of Justice in UK and Wales ruled on 9th July 2012 that Samsung's tablets do not copy the iPad's design because they're not as cool as the iPad. While this is a good side for Apple that the judge in a way promoted their product and favoured it publicly over competing tablets; the court declared that Apple must post a note on their website admitting that Samsung's tablets did not infringe Apple's patents.

Nevertheless, only Apple could find such a great solution to this problem. Apple quoted the judge's ruling stating that Samsung's tablets did not copy the iPad's design because the iPad was a lot cooler! Below is the text quoted from Apple's website.

Watch iPad Mini Live event

By: Marawan Alwaraki, October 23, 2012
Do you want to watch the iPad Mini (or at least that's what we believe will be the biggest announcement in the keynote) Live event? I'll give you a few of the best ways to watch it so you can enjoy the moment live:
  • Apple TV: If you open your Apple TV you will find a new icon for the event, watch it from there
  • Head over to from your Mac or iOS device and watch the event. The event will probably work on the Windows version of Safari too.
  • Youtube: Now that YouTube supports live streaming there are several live stream videos for the event. A whole list of them are available in here. IGNORE THE FIRST 3 RESULTS AS THEY ARE NOT LIVE EVENTS. The fifth result (Let's Talk iPad Mini) is probably a good one.

How are you planning to watch the event? It's only 1 hour away! Share your expectations too. I expect an iPad Mini, Mac Mini updated, iMac updated, iBooks 3.0, iTunes 11 and a 13' MacBook pro with retina. Also, Apple might announce that the factory unlocked iPhone 5 will become available on its online store.

Cheer up! Steve Jobs vs Bill Gates Rap Battle [Parody]

By: Marawan Alwaraki, October 22, 2012
I can't stop laughing and hitting the replay button every time I watch this music video. It isn't Bruno Mars' latest album or anything as boring as that, it's something epic. Epic Rap Battles of History made a parody rap battle between Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Some of the replies are so funny and offensive you have to watch the video to believe it. The video is 4 months old so some of you may have already watched it. I watched it a few months back but saw it today on YouTube and after laughing for ages I said I must share the video on the blog too.

    Some of the funniest parts:
After the video so I don't ruin it for you!

Send email from your spotlight using spotmail [Jailbreak required]

By: Marawan Alwaraki, October 22, 2012
Apple's spotlight search is one of the simplest mobile spotlights found in mobile phones. It lets you search for apps, contacts, movies, music, etc. Other mobile software such as Google's Android give you a few extra feature such as web search suggestions which makes the spotlight an internet search engine mini app too. Apple like their products to be simple, and spotlight is a fine example.

There is however a feature that Apple forgot to include in spotlight search. This is to let users compose emails simply by typing in the email address they would like to send an email to in the spotlight and hitting the search button. Immediately, the mail app will open with the address already input in the email.

An entirely different look at Windows 8

By: Marawan Alwaraki, October 21, 2012
While many criticisms have been posted on how Windows 8 is really hard to use today I have a video for you I found on Gizmodo showing you a 3 year old using Windows 8 with the help of his father (voice only). The dad did not move the mouse around or touch the keyboard he just gave him a few commands of what to do. Yes, the kid is a 3 year old using Windows 8. So if you think Windows 8 is hard to use, chances are you're getting too old for the modern age. Welcome to 2012! Just kidding.

Windows 8 is Windows re-imagined so previous Windows users are going to have a bit of time getting used to the operating system. I'm no computer whiz but I was able to use Windows 8 properly in my first day. I did obviously find a few things I didn't know about every now and then, but getting used to the OS isn't much of a big deal. Once you know where things are and how to operate you will feel as if you're home.

    Watch the video below.

Have you tried Windows 8 yet?

Windows 8 might drive users to switch to Mac [Videos]

By: Marawan Alwaraki, October 18, 2012
Windows 8 has a lot of problems. I used to have a couple of its beta stages and spent a lot of my time trying to go back to Windows 7 and thankfully it was possible. The main problem was that the OS looks as if it was made for a tablet and not a keyboard and mouse. This is probably the case and it's disappointing that Microsoft are making it available for computers. Watch the videos below of Windows 8 being used by average customers and tell us if you think Windows 8 could possibly drive people to buying a Mac as a comment. I'm probably switching soon.

    More videos after the break.

Why buying an iPhone 4S now is a really bad idea

By: Marawan Alwaraki, October 16, 2012
You might think that there isn't much of a big upgrade from the iPhone 4S to the iPhone 5 and decide to buy the iPhone 4S because it's a good bit cheaper. However, what might be a change that you don't really care about could be the reason you will hate the iPhone 4S. It's got nothing to do with you enjoyig the feature, it's just you need to have it, and I'll be telling you why. The biggest notable upgrade in the iPhone 5 is the slightly larger screen. According to Apple and many reviews I read on the Internet, 'the device fits perfectly in the palm of tour hand'

But that's what they said last year, and the year before! So is the iPhone 4S a great phone? Of course it it. But the problem that you will soon be facing is app compatibility. Read on to find out how? It's a big drawback.

iExpander project- better camera, expandable SD memory, and double the battery life for your iPhone

By: Marawan Alwaraki, October 13, 2012
iExpander is a kickstarter project for iPhone that really got my attention. It basically let's you have a better camera for low-light images, an expandable SD memory slot, and double the battery life. It is compatible with the new iPhone 5 as well as previous iPhones. The iPhone 5 version even converts the lightning port to a 30-pin connector port on your iPhone 5, so if you're worried about the number of $29 adapters that you need to buy, this case will solve your problem.

To double the battery life, the iExpander team put in another battery just like the one that comes with your iPhone 5. Now you have two batteries in your iPhone, because having one battery is too mainstream.

The team promise a big improvement in low-light images. They have adjusted the LED flash to add more light energy and increase the distance of the flash of the iPhone leading to 'unbelievable' results. The before and after images below should prove the point. For some reason I still feel a bit uncertain about the reliability of these images.

Shoot panorama from righ to left on iPhone

By: Marawan Alwaraki, October 13, 2012
If you have an iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 then you've almost certainly played around with the panorama feature. You didn't need to take a panorama picture, but you did, just for the sake of trying it out. But have you fully tried it out? Did you know you can take panorama backwards as in from right to left? Its' really easy. During panorama mode click on the blue arrow before starting the panorama capture, you'll realize the arrow switched directions. Now just take the picture as you would on the normal panorama mode except while moving from right to left. As usual, try balancing the blue arrow on the middle line for best panorama results.

Have you enjoyed the panorama mode on your iPhone?

    Crazy Taxi available for iOS

By: Marawan Alwaraki, October 11, 2012
You certainly remember this game back in the day. Crazy Taxi was a highly liked game, and still is. It's a legend in the pre-smartproducts era (I copyright this name!). The game was compared to games back then an awesome game. The idea was crazy and you gotta be crazy while driving a taxi. Hence the name Crazy Taxi. You're a crazy taxi driver who has to deliver people from a place to another in your kinda pimped taxi. The app is surprisingly not optimized to take advantage of the iPhone 5's display but it's safe to guess an update will roll out soon.

    Remember these guys?

    IE9 review- don't use it!

2 days ago I promised you with a review for Internet Explorer 9. I showed you two videos comparing IE9's ad with what it should really be like. Click here to watch the videos in case you missed the post. I'll tell you this quite frankly, Internet Explorer is a pretty good browser. It looks good and websites launch decently well. But (and there's always a but!) I no longer use it. I use Rockmelt as my browser as it has the coolest features ever.I have been using it since last March when I shared it on this blog and have to say I'm really pleased with what if offers. It offers features I couldn't get in Internet Explorer from instantly sharing websites to viewing my own posts! Read on after the break for the detailed explanation.

Apple post tribute to Steve Jobs

By: Marawan Alwaraki, October 5, 2012

It's been one year since the death of a hero in many people's eyes. So far his spirit seems to still remain in Apple ans its employees. We have seen so many great products released during this year including the iPhone 5 and retina display Macs. Nevertheless some disappointments such as Maps were released. It is said however that Steve Jobs hated Google so much and he was going to do the same thing with Maps and Youtube.

In the video Apple show pictures of Steve Jobs while playing audio from previous keynotes. They even remembered him with a few jokes he said. It's good to see Apple are remembering funny moments of Steve's life. They share good times with him and makes me feel sad he is gone.

The video was done in a simple style that it seems as if it was made during Steve Jobs' era! It's a simple slideshow with audio in the back and with a grayscale effect applied. Did you find the video effective?

Opinion: Best looking iPhone 5 skin yet (updated)

By: Marawan Alwaraki, October 3, 2012
Cases are all opinion based. It's obviously up to you to decide which one you like, nevertheless I'll constantly share cases I like on this blog. Today I want to share a case that grabbed my interest. One I added to the cart instantly. It's a red and black carbon fibre skin for iPhone 5. iCarbons also offers a variety of skins for a lot of consoles and mobiles for you to choose from. The one I'm sharing with you today looks and probably feels great, but as a skin there might be a downside.

You can choose if you want the skin for only the front/back/side of your iPhone 5. You can include all of them in the package, two of them or just one. Any combination is acceptable. I have always liked the way red and black colors contrast so this skin as I already said grabbed me on the spot. It looks beautiful.

Nokia criticize iPhone 5's lack of color in new Lumia ad

By: Marawan Alwaraki, October 3, 2012
Nokia are airing a new ad that criticizes the black and white colors of the iPhone 5. They also teased the customers who lined up for Apple's iPhone 5 that hit 5M sales in the first weekend (jealous much?). Watch it below it's actually a good advert. Doesn't make much of a point though as customers can still get good cases for their iPhones, a lot better than the Lumia color.
